Climbing Beyond the Corporate Ladder

Staci Williams had always been ambitious. As a young Black woman navigating the competitive corporate world, she knew the road wouldn’t be easy, but she worked tirelessly to climb the ladder. Her weeks were consumed by early mornings, late nights, and endless meetings. By the time Friday rolled around, she was often too exhausted to do anything but collapse on the couch. The hobbies she once loved—decorating, baking, her cherished book club—had all taken a backseat to her demanding career.

But one crisp Saturday morning, as the smell of freshly brewed coffee filled her home, Staci decided it was time to reclaim her weekends. That day, she baked her first batch of cupcakes in months, her kitchen alive with the comforting scent of vanilla and cinnamon. The following weekend, she went back to her book club, laughing and debating over the latest bestseller with her friends. With each passing weekend, she found herself rediscovering the parts of her life that made her feel alive.

It was during one of these revitalized weekends that Staci got an idea. She had always dreamed of having a meditation and reading room, a tranquil space to unwind after long weeks at work. A meeting with a contractor soon followed, and two additional rooms were added to her home.

Eight months later, Staci stood in awe of her completed spaces. The meditation room was a sanctuary of soft greens and earthy browns, filled with plants, candles, and cozy cushions. The reading room was a burst of creativity, with walls painted a rich navy blue, gold-accented bookshelves, and an oversized chair she had always wanted.

Decorating the rooms reminded Staci of how much joy her creativity brought her. Standing in her finished spaces, she realized something profound: for all her professional success, she had been missing out on life. From that day forward, Staci vowed to find balance—making time for her career and the things that brought her happiness.

Her weekends were no longer just about recuperating from work but about truly living, and Staci felt unstoppable in this new chapter of her life.
